Microsoft will not fix a big vulnerability in Windows 98

Microsoft has announced that it will not fix a vulnerability in Windows 98 Explorer. It claims that it would require a major rewrite of explorer, which would not assure that other applications will still be working.

Check your email security!

I found an intersting link to test your email security. It sends you a couple of emails containing fake virusses. In this way you can see how your email server is configured, and if your mailclient settings are ok.

Ubuntu stores root-password plaintext and world readable.

Have you seen this link? It is a post on slahdot, which explains that Ubuntu stores the password of the sudo-er plaintext in a file when he asks a couple of questions during install.

Pro-Active Spyware Prevention

Is ubuntu ready for production?

I have Ubuntu installed on two systems, a couple of weeks ago. I 've heard a lot of good comments, and enough people were very glad with it. But I am NOT. I think that this model does not work and we should look to another distribution.
