KDE 4 released

Friday 11th KDE 4.0 was released. See KDE's announcement here.

Anyone already tried it? Or are you all like me and wait for a while and let the others test and download the fixed version sometime later??

drupal modules

This is how I start the new year (I actually ended it that way as well), I (re-)develop our personal web site using Drupal 5.5. What else can you in your holiday really.... ;) So far the site had been plain HTML (well, with CSS) and it's about time to make something new. I tried Typo3 but unfortunately I never could get anything to work.

Anyways, to install Drupal was a mater of minutes, so zero problems. But as I looked around I discovered more and more things that are not included in the core package. Like the ability to add keywords, etc. So, really some basic things or at least what I think are basic things.

how to recover firefox bookmarks and thunderbird address book?

A month ago I wrote a story about how I got a new laptop. That was the nice part but the fact that my old one died was not a too good thing. I guess the CPU played Steak-on-a-BBQ. The hard drive is still OK, this is the good news. But so far I haven't been able to recover the Firefox bookmarks and the Thunderbird address book.

setting up a server

Hi folks.

We are very privileged and happy that our new hardware will arrive
soon. Mainly it's for backup but we all know that the possibilities are
almost endless. Non the less, the first goal is to get the backup
going. But since I'm not doing that everyday (setting up servers) I
thought I ask and see if you have some helpful hints for me.

password or jail - your choice

Either you give me your password or you enjoy up to 5 years in jail - what's your choice? Impossible, you think? No, it's a law. But only maybe in a very restrictive country. Sorry, no, that's in Great Britain. Believe it or not.

how much do you spend on security?

We just had a lively discussion about security and today I came
across an article stating that businesses spent an average of 20% of
their IT expenses on security in 2006. Here is the article at www.itnews.com.au.
