One thing we wanted to start doing again on our network is MAC filtering. I know on the security front it's not the top security measure but combined with other things it can help close most of the holes.
We did it using a Linux server (UBUNTU), but to avoid having to open the dhcp.conf file every time we have to add a new MAC, we decided to write a Web Admin tool. All open source using LAMP (Linux Apache Mysql PHP). The version 0.1 works nicely but we are developing a more advanced version with Expiry Date, filtering ON/OFF, etc. Also our accounts dep will have a back end access to it so they will know when the User/Machine was added and exactly who sould be charged for the network fees. It did take a lot of hours of coding and trying diferent ways of doing it but now that it has worked, although I know it's a simple system, I feel like we are starting to make use of open source.
As I mentioned on a previous post, I'm trying to use Open Source in everyday Office/Home use. So far it's been really good, there's only one problem I ran into that I haven't so far found a way around with open source (it's probably due to lack of knowleage). I even found a programme on Linux that connects to the video conferencing equipment for GENESIS, it doesn't work perfectly but it uses the H323 project, so based on that we (who has the right knowleage) could develop our own video conferencing software that would be compatible with GENESIS equipment. The one I've tried is called EKIGA and comes with UBUNTU.

H323 for Mac
Thanks for the link to this website. I have been looking for an open source (free) client to connect to GENESIS. It also put me on the right track to find a Mac OSX version. Just googled "H323 mac". I had looked for this, but I didn't know what to search for.
