Email, email, email, email, email... lots of it!

I have written a Blog on my website: Hello My Name Is Donovan and I Have An Email Problem. Maybe some of you will find it useful. In posting blog on ywamit.com, I was amazed though that there is no category for email or email management. :-) I put this under MS Outlook, but that's not really a good category.

re: Email, email, email, email.....

Hi.

I was amazed though that there is no category for email or email management

What about: Software -> Communication ?? I was actually wondering why there is a separate category for MS Outlook....

Anyways. I read your article and I think there are some good points in there. Not everything will work for everyone but I would say it's worth thinking about the email habits, specially when you run out of time to work. Something like not checking emails first or switching off the automatic email check is simply no option for me. Also I personally prefer some well organized folders. I don't use a desktop search, specially not Google Desktop (but that's just my personal opinion and decision) and I never missed anything with using the built in search function that my email client provides.

But I totally second to think about not using email at all for certain things. Sometimes it's just easier to either chat, call or talk with someone face to face. Many times we use Skype in the office to ask a quick question. Besides other things it keeps the noise down which is very nice, at least for us in the office. Also I like filtering. Some emails just don't need to be in the inbox. I also use RSS instead of email updates as much as possible. That simpy helps to keep the inbox clear specially from stuff that is actually no email.

Even if I agree to get a decent email program I don't know why it's necessary to get (pay for) MS Outlook unless someone desperately needs the other functionality that Outlook offers (but even then there might be a free alternative available, but this is not the topic....). There are other good programs for free available which are just as capable to handle email. But, again, that is just my personal opinion.
