A month ago I wrote a story about how I got a new laptop. That was the nice part but the fact that my old one died was not a too good thing. I guess the CPU played Steak-on-a-BBQ. The hard drive is still OK, this is the good news. But so far I haven't been able to recover the Firefox bookmarks and the Thunderbird address book. So, my question is, where do I find the files in the Firefox and Thunderbird installations on Windows?
It would be nice to get the stored passwords as well but that is more a matter of laziness. But to not have the bookmarks and the address book is really a bit of a pain. So, if anyone knows how I can get that back that would be highly appreciated. I hope it works to get the files back from a Windows installations and put them in my Linux installation. If necessary I can make a detour through another Windows and then export the files and import them in the Linux installations. But a direct C&P would be very nice and handy of course.
Thanks for any help.

Recovering Firefox bookmarks
Both on Linux and Windows (probably mac too), Firefox stores bookmarks in an html file. Inside Linux, it is in the .mozilla directory of the home folder. The path in Windows is a little more complex (read convoluted). Below I've posted the path to it as I found it in my WinXP VMware installation:
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\uce83a2n.default\bookmarkbackups
I'm not very familiar with Thunderbird, but I imagine it would probably work similar to Firefox, seeing as they are made by the same group.

Thanks guys, I have everything back now.
Besides that fact that I'm not much of a researcher, I usually find everything but not what I want, it was not exactly as easy as the Mozilla Article states. Copy & Paste just didn't work, for me at least. But I figured it out with some importing and exporting and I got all my addresses and bookmarks back. Well, one problems might have been that I never install on Windows the default way. So, I was looking at the wrong directory for the files....
Thanks again for your help.
