when the remote connection is too slow....

Thanks to my brother in law I managed to get a remote connection to a Linux box in the office running. I had a couple of problems that I just couldn't get right. But then finally it all worked. Well, somehow. Everything was so slow that I could grab a cuppa after starting a program on the remote computer. Scrolling on a website took about 1 minute (no kidding!!) until "something" happened. So, what should I do?

LogMeIn Free

I found this resource today called LogMeIn Free. The free version is limited, but it could be a useful solution for someone who needs remote address to a machine and doesn't want to set up something like OpenVPN(which I use and love).

Sharing Windows printers with Linux boxes...

One of the things that I have found hardest to get working over the years is printing to a printer attached to a Windows machine from my Linux machines.

FreeNAS for Network Storage

We are currently in the process of setting up a new Network Area Storage device. We have actually gone with a Dell Rack-Mounted server attached to a Dell PowerVault attached storage device running Windows Server 2003. We went with this set-up mainly because we use Microsoft Active Directory as our method of authentication and security. Before we chose this we spent a bit of time looking into other options, but decided to stick with this mainly because we already know it.
