setting up a server

Hi folks.

We are very privileged and happy that our new hardware will arrive
soon. Mainly it's for backup but we all know that the possibilities are
almost endless. Non the less, the first goal is to get the backup
going. But since I'm not doing that everyday (setting up servers) I
thought I ask and see if you have some helpful hints for me.

when the remote connection is too slow....

Thanks to my brother in law I managed to get a remote connection to a Linux box in the office running. I had a couple of problems that I just couldn't get right. But then finally it all worked. Well, somehow. Everything was so slow that I could grab a cuppa after starting a program on the remote computer. Scrolling on a website took about 1 minute (no kidding!!) until "something" happened. So, what should I do?

Creating a Secure On-Line Application Form

Does anyone out there have an on-line application form for YWAM courses? We are wanting to develop one, but also don't want to re-invent the wheel, so to speak.

ODF plugin for MS Office

Just noticed that Sun have produced their plugin for MS Office for the Open Document standard that OpenOffice uses as its file format and is now ratified as an official ISO standard too. As MS are not very interested in supporting this Sun and the community have produced their own plugin. You can find it here here.

Hey! I've been testing some OpenSource and Free software for using with Videoconferencing equipment and I was wondering if someone here have tested, tried or successfully used any of the following software.
Xmeeting - for Mac computers
Ekiga - Formerly known as Gnome Meeting ( for Linux and has a beta for Windows)
If you have used or want to try it and post some comments it would be greatly appreciated...
Also if you know of any other H323 (Video Enabled) software could you please post it here.
Thanks!

Ubuntu Studio released

Hi @ all.
Ubuntu Studio is available since about a week now. Also since then their websites (www.ubuntustudio.com, .org or .net) are mainly not accessible. At least at the time I wrote this. The wiki is no problem though.
Last weekend I tried to download it because I'm interested how it will look like and work since I'm not just a computer dude but also a sound techie. But it seems like the world is going crazy after Ubuntu Studio. I had an estimated download time of 54h. I thought I try to be smart so I checked BitTorrent as well. No difference there.

Ubuntu 7.04 ("Feisty Fawn") released

Hi @ all!

The new version of Ubuntu is available. As I expected the news said right away that the download server are unable to cope with the amount of users who download the newest release. Well, it was a big hype in the press about this version, so how could it different. If you waited for it, do yourself a little favor and let the others download first and do some beta test on the final release and the next week enjoy a fast download.
